The RGV Grandes squandered an opportunity to go up 2-0 in the first period on a missed penalty kick attempt by David Oteo in the 28th minute. The missed chance proved costly as a rejuvenated Sockers squad rallied with two goals of their own by Lukas Garcia in the 55th minute and Michael Stewart in the 61st to defeat the visitors 2-1 at Grande Communications Stadium . Down 1-0 at halftime in what could have been 3-0 if the Valley team had finished on the penalty kick and a chance in the fifth minute by defender JaIro Castillo who sent a 10 yard rocket over the cross bar on a free kick by David Oteo that rebounded off the Sockers wall, the Sockers came out fighting in the second half continuously pounding the Grandes defense. The official scorers recorded 22 shots for the home team versus just three for the RGV, forcing beleaguered goalie Juan Gamboa to make 11 saves.
