These are the steps I take to fix the low on space error message that pops up on some LG and Pantech Androids that I have seen. Yes you can use a cache cleaner but that would be something you have to download and sometimes the phone can be so low on memory that you cannot download any apps. These steps have worked for me on a lot of phones.
1 Verify how much internal memory you have
Menu - settings - storage or SD and Phone storage - then Internal phone storage. if your phone has 25 to 30 mb it may freeze a bit or things may be delayed but usually you start having some noticeable issues when it gets less than 25MB.

To clear some memory. From home screen go to Settings - Applications - Manage Applications - You will use 2 tabs primarily.

Under the Downloaded tab erase any OLD apps you no longer use or forgot that you still had on your phone. If you're not using it why should it use your storage space. Its like driving around with 500lbs of junk in your trunk and wonder why your car get bad gas mileage.

Under the ALL tab you want to press Menu then sort by size. You will see the apps that use the most amount of memory. Some apps like the email app, Fb or others can potentially use a lot of memory. I have seen FB or email apps use 50+MB. To clear the apps just tap on it and press Clear cache - then Clear Data and press OK on the pop up. Then Force Stop and press OK on the pop up. After a reboot you should see a lot more internal space available and your phone should work better. Also there is no need to keep thousands of old Text messages. If you want to save them, then use SMS backup and Restore to save to your SD card. It does not do the Picture messages though.

Before doing any steps please make sure that you know what your email address and passwords are because (depending on phone) by clearing the Email, fb app or others you may have to sign in again and if you dont know what your password is then well your stuck. I will try to update a list with the most common apps that use a lot of space. Also if you;re not sure about a app then ask first. YOU CAN POTENTIALLY MESS UP YOUR PHONE BY STOPPING A APP THAT YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO. Usually THEN the only fix is to do a factory data reset.

Some phones that I have seen this issue on are the LG, optimus s, optimus t, optimus g, ally, vortex, enlighten, lg thrive, apex, phoenix, thrill, venice. These phones listed have shown the “low on Space” error message. This has also been seen on some Pantech phones too, Prepaid and monthly phones.
