Kyle Shadley-White is diagnosed at 27 with a brain tumor and has a shunt placed as treatment to drain fluid from his brain. When the shunt begins to malfunction, Kyle and his wife, Sarah, go looking for answers. As Kyle's condition worsens he has a harder time interacting with his family. One night, Sarah comes home to find Kyle laying on the floor convulsing. Kyle is rushed to the hospital where he is stabilized. The trauma to his brain and 6 months in the hospital cause Kyle to be trapped in a bed, unable to perform any function like walking, talking, feeding himself, or bathing. Sarah fights for Kyle and against people who tell her that Kyle will never be himself again. She works to get Kyle to Mercy Health-Fairfield Hospital in Cincinnati, where RehabCare and Mercy combine forces to provide an Acute Rehabilitation Unit. After RehabCare gets Kyle admitted, Dr. Nicholas Godby and and the team of Mercy Health-Fairfield Hospital nurses and therapists work to get Kyle back on his feet and back to his wife and new son.
