Cybrid Painting on Collage 2014 DIY Document Camera used for Stop Motion Animation involving Relief Painting on Kinetic Paper Collage Reis Studio, Long Island City (Queens) NY
Concept: Derek Brueckner Camera and Editing (iMovie): Derek Brueckner Video 41 sec
Artist Statement This research and video work presented originated during an 8-week summer residency in New York (July & August 2014) where a document camera/animation stand was built and designed. Rough video animations were generated blurring improvisations, demos, kinetic pictorial space, painting, collage, art materiality and process.
The most recent work Cybrid Collage & Drawing Video - from the Polyopia Play Rehearsal Series presented as part of the Cybrid video work explores an accumulation and accretion of time and materials referencing information overloads and persistent corporeal endurance layered within consumerism, detritus art materials, memory and cybernetic culture all concluding into an obsessive automatic drawing and collage performance.
In this posted video work I continue the use of installation, improvised rehearsals and demos, I seek to expand the threshold connections between physical and digital processes and further explore dialectics between painted/drawn images and time-based practices. Distinctions of segregation and segmentation within this current work are challenged, linking spaces between the isolated forms of practice, production, performance and painting. Collectively the Cybrid video work combines performances, video and animations with painting and drawing.
