Correction: The Jeffrey has 85 units of housing not 65.

On October 21st, 2008, The Jeffrey Apartments opened its doors - closing a chapter on what was arguably one of the most dilapidated and unsafe housing structures in Portland - the Jefferson West.

Originally built in 1916, the Jefferson West was built as a hotel for construction workers at the height of Portland's downtown construction boom. Over the years, the building fell into disrepair and became a public eyesore with a sordid past.

After more than five years of work and dedication from the developer and other housing partners, such as Homestead Capital and the PDC, the Jeffery opened its doors. The Jeffrey is a shining example of how public and private partnerships can come together to improve the lives of low income citizens and replace a community eyesore with a community amenity.
