Grupo Salinas chairman and founder Ricardo Salinas discusses the challenges of doing business in Latin America with CFR Board Member Donna Hrinak. Salinas cites inconsistent regulation across the continent as a major challenge for his company. "It's complicated because there are lots of small countries out there," he says, "each one has its own rules." Salinas also emphasizes that not all Latin American countries offer the same opportunities for business investment. "There are other neighborhoods like Venezuela, where we would not be investing there, like Ecuador, like Nicaragua. We'd steer clear of those."

The CEO Speaker series is a unique forum for leading global CEOs to share their insights on issues that are at the center of commerce and foreign policy and to speak to the changing role of business in the international community. The series, sponsored by CFR's Corporate Program, is one way that CFR seeks to integrate perspectives from the business community into ongoing dialogues on pressing policy issues, such as the international economic recovery, sustainable growth and job creation, and the expanding reach and impact of technology.
