This video was made in loving, loving memory of precious Shiloh Jade Pepin who was born on August 4, 1999 to her parents Elmer and Leslie Pepin in West Kennebunk, Maine. Unfortunately, Shiloh Jade was born with a rare disorder which doctors called "Mermaid Syndrome", when the child's legs are fused together from birth, causing the child to basically appear to only have one leg, or "fin". Due to this disorder, the child is very likely to have kidney, bladder, and lung infections or life-threatening problems.
Shiloh was a hero, she was upbeat, and she wouldn't let her disorder bring her down. She did many things normal children her age would do, such as swimming and attending school and summer camps. She celebrated her 10th birthday party on August 4, 2009, which doctors feared she would never reach. This birthday was the happiest day of her life, according to her parents. She loved her big birthday cake and she swam in the pool, even by herself, and with a little help from her mother, father, and big cousin.
Just two months after this wonderful birthday party, Shiloh becomes very ill and is diagnosed with a severe lung disorder. She is rushed to a hospital where she was then treated. She then passes away on October 23, 2009 and is laid to rest with her sister, Molly Pepin, who died before Shiloh was born.
She is loved and missed forever by family and friends and all who new her, and she has touched many hearts with her depressing story. Over 300 people attended to her funeral.
