At a recent meeting of the Partnership in Statistics for Development in the 21st century (Paris21), reviewing partners' involvement in the Post-2015 Development Agenda, the Secretariat of the Pacific Community launched a short statistical advocacy video, featuring Pacific island statisticians, senior policy-makers and development partners acknowledging the importance of statistics to assist evidence-informed policy development and planning, and the regular monitoring of development progress. "With billions of dollars likely to be invested in post-2015 development efforts worldwide, it is imperative we convince political leaders to elevate statistical development as a development goal in its own right", said Gerald Haberkorn, Director of the Secretariat's Statistics for Development division, to be able to "provide countries and their development partners with evidence that money invested is well spent, making an impact, and achieving desired development outcomes".
