Sorry for the unsteady voice, I'm not the strongest of speakers.
If you don't want to listen, have a read instead.
Excuse spelling errors and such.
Okay, so, I've been hearing about Rick Perry's -Strong- Ad for a while now, but I never thought much of it. Rick Perry is already considered a complete and utter incompetent in my eyes anyway, so anything he says or does I usually ignore. Why waste my time.
But, I have finally stopped and listened to his Ad.
Allow me to quote the first part.
-I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm a Christian, but you don't need to be in the pew every Sunday to know there's something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military but our kids can't openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school.-
Really? Really Mr. Perry? Are you kidding me?
First of all, you're comparing apples to oranges. Gays. Who are still people. Serving in the military. Have no relation what so ever to people wanting a little religious independence. What you are saying to me, is that a certain group of people, with a certain preference, serving in the military, insults you because people suddenly don't feel comfortable with other religions being forced on them.
You see, Mr. Perry, this isn't about taking away rights from people of other prefrences and religions, it's about protecting them. It's about telling everyone to shut up, get off their high horses made up of their beliefs, and get on equal ground with everyone else. It's this country, coming to it's senses, and understanding that we have to coexist with others.
You speak as if gays are a different species. As if being gay has any effect whats so ever on the content of ones character. As if the right to be human is taken away, with the choice of being gay. And, I use the word -choice- very lightly.
These are people we are talking about. People with lives that are just as important as anyone elses.
People who put their lives on the line for us every day.
People who lose their lives for us, every day.
And you have the balls to demean them?
You are demeaning the very people of this country, who you hope to one day lead. They are citizens. Your thoughts of them won't change that. They are your future, and you are not treating the future very kindly.
Allow me to move on, and quote Mr. Perry once more.
-As President, I'll end Obama's war on religion. And I'll fight against liberal attacks on our religious heritage.
Faith made America strong. It can make her strong again. -
When and where has Obama ever attacked religion? Tell me. Because I will surely want to have a rant about that too. If you are considering his lack of mention of religion as war against it, then you might as well consider his lack of mention about Star Wars an attack on all Star Wars Fans. Because let me tell you this, Obama has done right by me on this subject. Obama has not declared us devoted to one religion, and I respect that.
How can you say your religious heritage is under attack? Your religions entire history is mostly about it's attack on other religions. People died for your religion, and you have the balls to complain that not everyone has to celebrate Christmas as the day Christ was born?
I got news for you buddy, it's not even certain that Christmas is the day Christ was born. Christians just took the basic time frame of the Ancient Roman Festival known as Saturnalia and used it to mark a date on their calenders.
Your implication that America was founded on a religion is foolish. We founded one the belief of freedom. Meaning we believe in anything we wanted. If I wanted to believe a huge sock puppet was my creator, then I could. That's what freedom is. The right to maintain what ever prefences you have.
America can only be strong once we bind together, using our strengths and weaknesses to overcomer our hardships. Not preoccupying ourselves with attacking one another over the petty things.
We can over come our predgidice ways, even with people like you attempting to weigh us down.
