Guillermo Del Toro is post-converting Pacific Rim into 3D....butnot by choice. In what looks like an effort to rake in maximum international profits,Variety reports Warner Brothers has forced Guillermo del Toro to make his 2013 alieninvasion flick Pacific Rim... a 3D one. Now the Hellboy director has never made a3D film before and at this year's Comic Con...Del Toro told fans he didn't wantPacific Rim be his first. Specifically, he said the creatures in the film mightnot hold up in conversion due to their size and scale.
While other big budget studios are less heavy handed with postproduction 3D conversion, Warner Brothers is certainly not...they readilyconverted 2010's Clash of the Titans after the fact and many would say the film'sclunky CGI creatures took a beating because of it. On the flip side, Warner isreleasing the movie in 2D as well...ultimately letting movie goers decide which versiondominates.
At the core of Pacific Rim lies a simple, seen-it-beforestory, giant monsters vs robots in an epic battle to save humanity...but Del Toropromises a fresh take on age old science fiction when Idris Elba, CharlieHunnam, Ron Perlman and Charlie Day rumble into theatres on july 12, 2013. And WarnerBrothers says conversion will be complete by the mid-july release date. Don'tforget to hit subscribe for more updates on Pacific Rim and all your favoritemovies. I'm Simone Boyce in Hollywood, and thanks for watching!
