Oct. 1, 2010: Raising the Digital Generation - What we Know about Digital Media and Learning
Henry Jenkins, Provost's professor of communication, journalism and cinematic arts, leads a lecture that answers questions of concern for any Trojan parent: what do we know about the generation that has come of age with networked computing? What has it meant for them to grow up with YouTube, Facebook, and Wikipedia? How has it prepared them for their futures -- as students, as workers, as citizens, as expressive individuals and as members of larger communities? This talk will draw on Jenkins's recent work done on New Media Literacies, Digital Citizenship, and participatory culture, which has been part of a larger research network created by the MacArthur Foundation to explore Digital Media and Learning.
