You will learn how to make a crochet Granny square. You can take the granny square, make a lot of them and make a full size blanket, a baby blanket or afghan for your dog.

3:42complete with a single crochet
3:45and the single crochet counts as the other chain 1
3:48and ends right here in the center
3:52now I'm gong to chain 3
3:57and do 2 double-crochet in the same space
4:04whcih is through this space right here
4:09I have one more double-crochet to do
4:17now chain 1
4:21and in the next chain-2 space we will do 3 double-crochet
4:45chain 2, 3 double-crochet
5:07now chain 1
5:09in the next space, which is this chain-2 space right here
5:13between these 2 sets of 3 double-crochet
5:18you do 3 double-crochet
5:26and some people may call the "3 double-crochet, chain 2, 3 double-crochet"
5:32a shell, which it does qualify as a shell

8:08chain 1
8:133 double-crochet in the next chain-1 space
8:29chain 1
8:31now in the corner space we do a shell
8:35of 3 double-crochet, chain 2, 3 double-crochet
8:53This is where we get our increase
8:56and our nice pointed corners
9:09now chain 1
9:113 double-crochet in the next chain 1 space
9:26chain 1
9:293 double-crochet
9:42chain 2
9:46now 3 more double-crochet in the same chain-2 space
10:00and that gives us another corner
10:03and you can see how, in each corner
10:08we have 3 double-crochet, chain 2, 3 double-crochet
10:12in each of the previous rounds
10:15and this gives us our shape
10:22in the next chain 1 space we do 3 double-crochet
10:34chain 1
10:36and in the next corner we'll do 3 double-crochet
10:50chain 2, 3 double-crochet, all in the same chain-2 space
10:58we are creating another corner
11:08now chain 1
11:11in the next chain-1 space, 3 double-crochet
11:21chain 1
11:23and in the next corner we do 3 double-crochet
11:34chain 1
11:38This is where we started so I'll do the single crochet to join
11:44and this is so we end up in the center of the corner
11:50now round 4
11:52will be a chain 3
11:552 double-crochet in the same chain-2 space
11:59and even though it's a chain 1 and single crochet
12:05I still call it a chain 2 space or a space
12:09because the chain 1 and the single crochet together
12:15represent a chain 2
12:18so chain 1
12:213 double-crochet in the next chain 1 space
12:32chain 1
12:353 double-crochet in the next chain-1 space
12:47chain 1
12:50now in our corner we'll do our shell
12:53of 3 double-crochet
13:05chain 2
13:073 double-crochet, all in the same space
13:31now chain 1
13:343 double-crochet in the next chain-1 space
13:43chain 1
13:463 double-crochet in the next chain-1 space
14:03chain 1
14:06now we're in our corner
14:09which is 3 double-crochet
14:17chain 2
14:203 double-crochet
14:22all in the same chain-2 space
14:32chain 1
14:343 double-crochet in the next chain-1 space
14:45chain 1
14:483 double-crochet in the next chain-1 space
15:00chain 1
15:02now we're at our corner
15:05which is 3 double-crochet
15:14chain 2
15:173 double-crochet
15:27chain 1
15:303 double-crochet in the next chain-1 space
15:40chain 1
15:423 double-crochet in the next chain-1 space
15:53chain 1
15:573 double-crochet in the beginning corner
16:07chain 1
16:10and single crochet in the beginning chain to join
16:21There's 4 rounds of the granny square
16:27With round 5, we chain 3
16:40chain 1
16:433 double-crochet in the next chain-1 space
16:54chain 1
16:573 double-crochet in the next chain-1 space
17:08chain 1
17:113 double-crochet in the next chain-1 space
17:25chain 1
17:27and in the corner
17:29we do 3 double-crochet
17:40chain 2
17:423 double-crochet
17:57chain 1
18:00and each one of these spaces here
18:04will be repeated with a chain 1 and 3 double-crochet
18:08in each space
18:13and that's what you'll see with a lot of the patterns
18:18that's how they are written
18:21because there is a lot of repetition with crochet
18:26and so you'll have the little asterisk marking certain stitches
18:31that will need to be repeated several times
18:35or certain sets of stitches
18:39that will need to be repeated
18:41and this would be considered a set of stitches
18:44which is the chain 1 and 3 double-crochet
18:58now chain 1
19:00and we're back to the corner
19:03and in the chain 2 space
19:06we do 3 double-crochet
19:09chain 2, 3 double-crochet
19:34now chain 1
19:383 double-crochet in the next chain-1 space
19:47I have seen some really beautiful afghans
19:51made out of 1 square
19:53where the person just kept going
19:57and making the square larger and larger
20:09chain 1
20:113 double-crochet
20:22chain 2
20:253 double-crochet
20:39chain 1
20:423 double-crochet in the next chain-1 space
20:54chain 1
20:563 double-crochet in the next chain-1 space
21:08chain 1
21:103 double-crochet in the next chain-1 space
21:23chain 1 and now we're back around to the beginning
21:28and we'll do 3 more double-crochet
21:37chain 1
21:39single crochet in the beginning chain 3
21:48and there's 5 rounds
21:52and this gives us about a 6.5 inch square
