gif tutorial:

open photoshop, i use cs5 but any version will work!
go to file ; import . video frames to layers.
click selected range only, and play your video. when you get to the part you want to gif, hold down the shift key while clicking on the arrow. don't hold it too long or it will make too many frames.
click limit to every 2 frames. you can make it more or less... if you have a long gif, limit it to about 3 or 4 frames.
IF FRAMES DON'T SHOW UP AT THE BOTTOM, go to window, animation, and your frames will show up at the bottom of the screen.
crop your image however you want.
go to your frames at the bottom of the screen, and delete unnecessary frames. usually people make their gifs 10-20 frames.
then select all the frames, click where it says the time at the bottom. change that the speed you want. i usually do somewhere between .08 and .1 seconds.
(now would be the time to add any psds, text, edits, black and white, or other editing to your gif)
when you're done with your gif, go to file, save for web and devices , and click the little arrow in the top right cornerish area.
then click optimize to file size. put 500 K (thats what tumblr can upload)
after that you should be done!
