On November 29, 2012—as part of Carnegie Hall's "Voices from Latin America" festival—a double-bill of legendary flutist and improviser Carlos Malta with Pife Muderno playing traditional flute and drum music, and Cordestinos—led by virtuoso violinist Nicolas Krassik—celebrates lively folk and contemporary musical trends from Brazil.

Here, enjoy the rhythmical infectiousness of Malta and Muderno's interpretation of the theme from 1953's "O Cangaceiro"—an American Western-inspired Brazilian cinema classic directed by Lima Barreto, considered to be Brazilian film's international breakout movie.
