Chen Shui-bian's (陳水扁) son Chen Chih-chung (陳致中) and his daughter-in-law Huang Jui-ching (黃睿靚) went to the US recently. They didn't do this spontaneously or to run away from anything, as the media said many times over. Chen Chih-chung was ready to begin studies at the University of Virginia -- something you can't do on short notice. He and his wife had not been informed of impending charges when they left Taiwan, and they had not been barred from doing so.
When they were named in the investigation surrounding Chen Shui-bian, they had to end their lease, return a rental car, and deal with the other red tape involved in such situations. But the media reported that the couple had "fled," and the media also "speculated" (read: "fabricated stories") that the pair "might have green cards" and that "they might not return!!!111!!"
Of course, it was all bullshit.
The Monday, August 25, 2008 edition of Talking Show (大話新聞) has video of Chen Shui-bian's son and daughter-in-law returning to Taiwan, facing the media, and showing up for interrogation. Host Cheng Hung-yi (鄭弘儀) and panelist Ho Po-wen (何博文) discuss the media's fabrications.
Important points brought up in the video and discussion include these:
1) Chen Chih-chung presented his student ID to counter a University of Virginia spokesperson's false claim that he had not been accepted into the program and media claims that he was not even in Virginia;
2) Taiwan's representative in Washington, Jason Yuan (遠健生) (KMT), verified that neither Chen Chih-chung nor his wife had even applied for US green cards; and...
3) President, er, Mr. Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) has still not brought forth evidence that the green card we know he *did* have has been canceled or otherwise invalidated.
Remember, beware of the presentation, and focus on the facts. Then, you'll be less likely to get taken in by the bullshit.
