Hightlights, Jane describes a dream of hers in which she woke up in a rage at not being able to run a therapeutic group. Jane throws out her unconscious to the group to get their reaction. Kay thinks it is an anxiety dream and that she is doing a good job. Barbara thinks we need more flow which Jane thinks is a side swipe comment against Lana but Barbara doesn't pick up the hint and EJ thinks Jane is throwing oil on the fire. 4:20 Paula think when we use the word "aggression" we feed aggression. Jane says we could go straight to hate or even murder (Paul laughs). 7:30 Jane tells EJ about how she is trying to move hostility into a felt experience. 15:30 Carol admires how Kay picked up on Lana's betrayal. Carol can't use bad words. 20:00 Jane asks if she could feed herself with words and not food.24:00 Carol can call a driver an asshole in her mind if the other person doesn't hear. 26:30 Andres says he can be aggressive. "Andres, do I need to love you more?" says Jane. (and that was the last we heard from Andres who left the group after this session). Witness first-hand the manifestation of psychic mechanisms as attempts to defend the ego: for instance, we see at the narcissistic defense, as defined by Hyman Spotnitz. We observe the expressions of Freuds concept of eros (love) and thanatos (death and aggression) as group members struggle to find safe, yet authentic, footing with one another, and come to both love and hate each other. You will think they are out of central casting but they are real people, with real issues that they have the courage and generosity to share their working through processes with the universe.
