From 2007-2012, over 5.5 million people received NTD treatments with dramatic results: schistosomiasis prevalence was reduced from 12% to 1.4%, hookworm prevalence dropped from 18% to 2.6%, and trachoma levels dropped from 13% to 3%. The efforts to control schistosomiasis were so successful that Burundi has been selected as a pilot country by the Schistosomiasis Consortium for Operation Research and Evaluation (SCORE) to assess the potential of moving beyond control to elimination.
