Guitar versions of this piece almost always stem from an arrangement by Dave Laibman which appeared in a Stefan Grossman book . Having known the piece for several years I was always bemused when I heard it played by any other ensemble. The melody line almost unrecognisable from Grossman's published transcription. So, a little research and I can compare Grossman's recorded version, the original 1928 version by the ' Dallas String Band ' and the 1958 recording by ' The New Lost City Ramblers '. I've never heard Laibmans version but it must have been based on the Ramblers recording and the strange thing is that the second line in the melody is totally unlike the original even though it can be done easily enough? The tags are different again but you'd expect that. My video here is a mish-mash of all of them with an attempted correction to the melody.
