http://www.waltsblog.com brings you this short video on Click Through Rate as well as many other topics related to the Internet Marketing niche.

Also known as CTR, Click Through Rates are calculated on a percentage basis. So if your ad received one thousand views and 50 people clicked on it (clicked through) that would equate to 0.05%.

There are ways in which you can improve your click through rate, whether it be for Search Engine Pay Per Click (PPC), Facebook Pay Per Click (FB PPC) or Banner ads.

Your Headline should be congruent with the topic you are advertising for, so that your campaign has flow to it. It should also appeal to the curiosity factor we all have, so asking a question on a ppc ad is usually a good way to improve your CTR. You can also ad numbers but when doing this, try using non rounded numbers, such as "$1376" as opposed to "$1400" or "Lose 9 Pounds In 6 Days".

It's also a good idea to capitalize the most important word in the headline, if the site or place you are advertizing in allows it. An example of this is: "Discover 3 SECRETS For High CTR"

Using words based around secrets, like Discover, Secret, Unknown, Trick, Reasons and Ways usually works well. Your prospects will feel there is something missing they need to know in order to become successful at resolving their issue.

Try to shock, surprise or wow with your headlines, stand out from the crowd by being bold and making a statement or even better, ask a question. An example is "Get 346,750 Visitors p/ Day?". Of course you never want to lie to your prospects so do your best to research your product or service and use the most outstanding information about it to your advantage when creating ads.

To improve your CTR on Facebook ads, try testing many different images but always use images that do not blend in with the colors of Facebook, so therefore stay away from white backgrounds and blue or grey colors. Go for images with yellow, red, green or other colors that stand out from the surrounding area of where the ad will be displayed. Sometimes a simple color border on the image makes all the difference to your CTR.

When you want to improve your Click Through Rate on banner ads, you should try to use an image of a woman in the ad somewhere and also use an arrow pointing at a button. If you can have the button flash once or twice per second, not only will you improve your CTR but you shouldn't have issues getting your banner approved by by the website/s you are placing it in, since the flashing is kept to a minimum.

Overall, a good CTR can be achieved when you "think outside the box" and therefore stand out from the crowd. A lot of the time, your perfect prospect may not be looking for your product or service on purpose, so if you can have your ad stand out and draw in attention, the result will be a higher Click Through Rate.
