Having a bit of fun in the snow with RC Trucks. Snowsuits, a plywood jump over a hay bale, and mountain views add to the Canadian winter RC driving experience. ;-)
Gear: a couple of GoPro HD Hero2's, Traxxas Slash 4x4 brushless w/lipo, Traxxas MonsterJam with custom F150 body w/NiMH batt., stock radios, Newfoundlander dog. Edited with Adobe Premier Pro.
Well, Traxxas lived up to all their marketing hype about everything being water proof. The cars ran flawlessly. The stock steering servo on the Slash had a bit of trouble sometimes fighting the snow and couldn't always turn as sharp as normal, but otherwise the cars ran great. I was surprised the shaft drive had no problems even when completely buried in snow. The NiMH battery in the MonsterJam Grave Digger (has F150 body) died faster in the cold weather, but the 5300 Lipo in the Slash 4x4 wasn't affected at all at -8 deg Celsius. Both trucks chassis got really clogged up with snow which pretty much doubled the weight. I would recommend some sort of bag or underbody cover to keep all the snow out. It was so packed in I had to let it melt out and drain away in the upside down in the sink. My wife will thank me for that later I'm sure. ;-)
