FAKIR MUSAFAR is known worldwide for his 60 years of research and personal exploration of primitive body decoration and rituals. Fakir has introduced concepts and practices for the "body-first" approach to explore spirituality in art, body modifications, SM and what he calls "body play". Fakir's practices have been shown and his views expressed in the 1985 film DANCES SACRED & PROFANE and in ReSearch publications 1986 book MODERN PRIMITIVES (a word Fakir coined in 1979 to describe himself and a few kindred spirits).
The Leather Archives & Museum film and video digitization project transfers resources on expiring media (reel film and cassette tapes such as VHS and Beta) to current media (digital files and archival quality DVDs). During the transfer process, the LA&M curates short segments and clips of the film to make available online. Most of the films selected by the curators are no longer available and were produced by organizations no longer in business. The Leather Archives provide clips of these films to get our history out of Chicago and into the world.
