Today I walked without using my walker or quad cane that I'm borrowing from a friend. It's been since the date of our accident as we were leaving the Texas Cattleman's Restaurant in Cobb County on March 16, 08 since I've walked by myself. Although it looks like I'm just waddling along, it's a miracle from the Lord that I've come so far since our terrible accident. I ended up with about 10 operations on my legs. The doctors told me that when I came into the ER my legs looked like a crunched up Coke can. My husband and older son were both killed in the accident. We were hit by a wrong way drunk driver that night as we left to come back to Braselton. We'd been to Eric's 2nd Concert with the Metropolitan Atlanta Youth Wind Ensemble. Eric was in 10th grade and was 1st Chair Tenor saxophonist with MAYWE. He'd also made All STate Band as 1st Chair Alto Sax, and All State had been held in Savannah, GA, just 2 weeks before our tragic accident. I spent 5 months in various hospital settings until I was released on July 31, 08. I walked with a walker for the 1st time at St. Mary's Hospital in Athens, GA, on July 25th. Since then I've had Physical Therapy a t home with the same therapist. She is now sending me to outpatient therapy to continue on with my recovery progress. I wil start that therapy in Sept.
