Hello to all Spirit fans. This is the only recording in existence of Spirit's gig at the Lanchester Polytechnic, Coventry on their 1973 tour of the UK. Admission that night was 40p! Apologies for the poor quality. It was made on a hand held cassette recorder which subsequently chewed, mangled, snapped and spewed the tape back out again. After many hours of painstaking work, some of the concert has been salvaged, and is posted here for those of you who saw them live to relive some memories, and for those who were not so fortunate to get a very rough idea of what a great band they were.
Playing that night as a three piece with Randy California on guitar, Ed Cassidy on drums and Larry Fuzzy Knight on bass, this gig was on the same day they were broadcast on the BBCs Old Grey Whistle Test, the band and fans watching the show together, before the group took to the stage.
Featured here from the set that night are extracts from Fresh Garbage, Veruska, Natures Way, Turn To The Right (featuring a bass solo while Randy danced on stage with a girl from the audience), So Little Time To Fly and Mr Skin. Other songs played included Nothing To Hide, Devil, All The Same and I Got A Line On You, all sadly damaged beyond repair though.
Despite the poor quality I hope that any Spirit aficionados will find something to enjoy, and is shared by way of thanks to everyone who has posted some great clips of the band on You Tube, and in gratitude to the band for providing excellent music over the years.
