We all know what happens when Mentos and Diet Coke are mixed together (if not, just type in mentos & coke into google). But what happens if you apply our leading liquid repellent coating to Mentos? Can our coating prevent the explosive reaction from occuring? Well there is only one way to find out and that is to put it to the test. Watch the video to see what happens.

Why does the Mentos-Coke explosion happen? The reaction is down to the surface of the Mentos themselves. Although you can't see it with the naked eye, Mentos have a very rough and dimply surface which encourage bubbles to grow due to the fact that they efficiently disrupt the water molecules within the coke, creating rapid bubble growth.

Why does Diet Coke produce the most powerful explosion? This is down to low surface tension which helps bubbles grow quicker. Diet Coke contains aspartame which reduces the surface tension and when combined with Mentos which contain gum arabic, another source that reduces surface tension the reaction is very explosivel.

Have you seen our other Repellent Files videos? So far we have treated teabags, biscuits, coffee, berocca and sugar cubes and you can see them all below:
