Zhuangzi, a fourth century philosopher, had a discourse with a friend of his before a fish tank, in which he remarked that they look happy. His friend retorted, "How can you know if they've been happy?" to which Zhuangzi responded, "You're not I, so how do you know I don't know what fish enjoy?"
Our movie takes its philosophical impetus from there. Tang Songyun, an unhappy american living in China, has lost his life's meaning. Suddenly, a mysterious woman comes into his life, and forces him to wake up and smell the coffee.
