The 20th Annual Southern Fried Poetry Slam is a four-day long festival, comprising competition and the camaraderie of poets from all over the southeast and beyond. This year, 32 teams, as well as 16 indie poetry slammers, will compete for over $6000 in cash prizes and this year's bragging rights. Southern Fried Poetry Slam competing poets represent all races, colors, creeds, gender identities and regions of the United States.

The entire festival will take place in Historic Ybor City district from June 6-9, 2012 and will include, in addition to the central competition, daily themed open mics, a poetry picnic, community service, youth poetry slam and more. It will be the largest poetry slam event in the history of Tampa Bay for years to come. Preliminary bouts will take place concurrently June 6-8, from 7pm-9pm, then from 9pm-11pm at the following locations in Ybor City: · Roosevelt 2.0 (1812 15th Street North) · Creative Loafing CL Space (1911 N. 13th St. Suite 200) · Good Luck Café Upper Level Club (1910 E 7th Ave.) · Stone Soup Company of Ybor (1517 East 7th Ave.)

The 20th Annual Southern Fried Poetry Slam Finals will take place at 7:30pm on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at the Roland Mantegia Theater in the Historic Cuban Club, and will feature, in addition to the top four teams and top four indie performers competing for the cash grand prize and this year's bragging rights, two of the Bay area's most acclaimed local hip hop acts, Dynasty and Mike Mass. The Historic Cuban Club is located at 2010 Avenida Republica de Cuba, Tampa, FL 33605.
