Mel Blount set the standard for the cornerback position in the NFL for 14 seasons as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He possesed size, speed, quickness and inteligence and was a major force in the Steelers run of winning 4 Super Bowls. His specialty was the bump and run pass defense enabling him to cover receivers making it almost impossible for them to shake the 6' 3" 205 pound dominator. The NFL changed the rule book and did not allow receivers to be harassed five yards passed the line of scrimmage (The Mel Blount Rule).Mel finished his career with 57 interceptions, was named All NFL three times and was picked to play in five pro Bowls. He was elected to the NFL Hall of Fame in 1989.
