I needed to find a few days of sunshine at the beginning of November, I decided to jump on a plane to Lyon to visit my auntie & uncle in the Ardeche region of France. I also fancied bringing my Brompton and then figured I'd set myself a little challenge.

The Alpe d'Huez climb has decided many a Tour de France race, its not the longest or steepest climb they do, its just relentless and has 21 hairpins over the 9 mile ascent... A good tour rider can knock the climb out in 45 minutes, I gave myself a target of double that time on my 16" wheel commuting weapon. Although I'm fairly fit, at 95kg I've always been more of a sprinter than a climber as you can imagine. I'm so glad I did this, once you have past turn 16 (about 3 miles up) things do get a tiny bit easier, the last 1-2 miles is really steep/hard too but mentally not as hard because you can see the top.... Thanks for watching.
