Bluegrass gig at Bluegrass Assn of Southern CA showcase December 2012 at Viva Cantina, Burbank. David Volk - guitar, vocals, Bill Peck - banjo, Mike Stein - fiddle and harmony, Ron Sutton - Dobro, Ron Vance - bass. This is a pickup band (our first and only gig) of experienced players that helped me make this milestone performance. This is the most organized bluegrass band I have ever led. Aside from a vocal pitch waiver in the first song of the night/ Never Ending Song, my vocals were respectable and I decided to post this as I ain't ashamed of it. Never Ending Song was a hit for Delaney and Bonnie and this is the Country Gazette cover which CLarence White also recorded this way. In Despair at 2:43 is from Bill Monroe's material. Why You Been Gone So Long (partial) at 4:41 is a Mickey Newberry honky tonk song I covered a White Brothers version. This video is worth watching if only for Mike's awesome fiddle solo at 6:35. Nellie Kane at 7:13 is a Hot Rize song. Bill Peck is a great musician capable of jazz and more in the Alan Munde style. He has many videos posted under his name and Banjomania. Mike Stein on fiddle is a Grammy winner and former US Navy band/ Country Current member with Bill Emerson. I saw Mike first with them in 1984. Ron Sutton is playing a Dobro he obtained from Buck Graves (Flatt & Scruggs) a long time ago and plays in that style. He has recorded with Johnny Cash and all the Woodstock Mt review including John Sebastian, Bill Keith etc. Ron Vance is on bass and has been working with me a few years.
