BOSTON -- Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein introduced his new prized acquisition, Adrian Gonzalez, on Monday at Fenway Park less than 24 hours after the trade with the San Diego Padres nearly fell through because of an MLB deadline to work out a long-term contract extension for Gonzalez.
Instead, the Red Sox decided to go ahead and send the three blue-chip prospects - Casey Kelly, Anthony Rizzo, Reymond Fuentes and a player-to-be-named - to the Padres and work out a contract extension at a later date.
