Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala will take a slender lead into the second leg of their Europa League qualifier against Honved Budapest. Guus Hiddink's big spending side had the better of the early exchanges in Thursday's first leg, with star striker Samuel Eto'o denied by the woodwork on 18 minutes.

Anzhi then took the lead four minutes later, as Brazilian Jucilei's shot was deflected in off Aleksandar Ignjatovic. The hosts almost immediately had the chance to double their lead.
But Eto'o's low cross was just missed by Mbark Boussoufa.

Honved had chances of their own with Herve Tchmami clipping the post at the other end of the pitch. But it was Anzhi who should have further extended their lead before the break, with Lacina Traore guilty of squandering a gilt-edged chance.

After the break, Honved stiker Gergely Delczeg had the ideal chance to level the scores with 20 minutes to go. But Anzhi held on to seal a 1-0 win ahead of next Thursday's return leg in Budapest.
