The language of sport is universal: it has the ability to bring people together, fostering dialogue and a spirit of hospitality. This was the message of Pope Francis in his speech to the members of the European Olympic Committees on Saturday at the Vatican. The Pope emphasized the link between the Church and sport to promote healthy human values, in the name of universal brotherhood, as the five intertwined rings, which are a symbol of the Olympic Committee, suggest. Pope Francis has also warned of reducing sport to economic parameters or the desire for victory at all costs. He said that real sport is harmony, but if the excessive pursuit of money and success prevails, this harmony is broken.
