ECCSCM has begun a new water monitoring project near CAFOs, a follow-up to our first project 10 years ago. Nobody's been testing the water since.
We test every 2 weeks for Dissolved Oxygen and E. coli bacteria. On July 12, the worst site, downstream from the largest CAFO, had DO of 1.3 mg/L (fish-kill level) and an E. coli count of 52,000/100 ml -- 52 times the Michigan water standard.
