Look, I don't speed and drive crazy like one may think just because I am a bit of a Radar Detector enthusiast as with many gadgets and technology or that I drive a 350Z highly modified (because I enjoy the hobby and the car in general). That said, on the interstate many/most people are going over the speed limit just to stay with the flow of traffic,.. or you are making a pass -- Maybe it's a long many hour trip.. whatever the case may be -- 99% of people "speed" which is an expensive thing if caught. You will be caught eventually without a decent detector like a Valentine One or Escort Passport Max or similar $400+ 'ish' detector (The cheaper ones don't have the range and are just too annoying to deal with to be honest.. and 'cry wolf' too often).
This video is just a recent example of how this detector saved me many hundreds if not thousands of dollars from preventing what would have been a pull over and +10-15ish speeding ticket when I was otherwise driving quite safely.
I couldn't tell if this was a state trooper or a local cop as this was hundreds of miles from where I live and at night - but he was 100% ON AXIS (meaning his readings from my lane would be dead on and the oncoming traffic he had an acute enough axis /angle to get proper readings as well. He or she (the Cop/Police officer) was operating at 34.700 KA Band on the shoulder.

A few things happened here.. the aforementioned "save" for me -- but also a great warning that a car was on the narrow shoulder ahead with a ramp up of how close I was during the night time -- which adds a 'safety' element to radar detectors that isn't discussed much at all. It keeps me safe and him safe with me knowing he was there ahead of time.. one distraction, bending down, or whatever car swerves slightly to the right and instead of shoulder it's a Cop car and potential death for both of us.
