Here is the recovered footage of how I lost and then found my DJI Phantom Quadcopter. The onboard GoPro Hero3 kept recording throughout the flight, the landing and then shows the mischievous visitors my Phantom had all while I was endlessly searching the surrounding fields
This was 100% pilot error, I flew too far away to accurately see the Quadcopter which caused me to loose orientation.
I didn't engage the GPS I kept the controller in Atti mode
I didn't engage the failsafe "Return to Home" feature
I kept inputting control commands instead of just letting it stop
I was in Course Lock but thought I was in Home Lock mode
I panicked!
The list is long and embarrassing. But watching the recovered footage sure helped me understand what went wrong and what not to do again.
I will say that at the time the Quadcopter was flying away I was sure something or someone else was controlling it, it could not be me making it fly the wrong way. In the back of my mind I was sure I was experiencing something super natural.
I though this couldn't have been my fault! That was until I saw the recovered GoPro video footage.
Amazing the torture that little DJI Phantom, Zenmuse Gimbal and GoPro Hero3 camera took and lived to work another day.
I guess my Quadcopter took a little ride on the old karma train.
Still love my DJI Phantom Quadcopter and GoPro Hero3 I try to fly at least once a day.
