Scotty was working a physical surveillance case one fateful evening as a state-licensed private investigator when his life would be changed forever by a tragedy. While being run off the road by a high-profile truck driven by tweekers attempting to take his life, his car hit a Jeep. The driver, a 21-year-old UCLA student from Brazil named Barbara, died from severe head injuries. The following months were amongst the most difficult for Scotty as he blamed himself and was riddled with grief, guilt and many other turbulent emotions. Peace started to come as Barbara's family reached out to let Scotty know, "Not only do we forgive you, but we feel no need to forgive you." They met in person with Scotty and shared their love, their tears, and many wonderful memories of Barbara.
