Ariel Adams of aBlogtoWatch reviews the 2013 Givenchy Seventeen wrist watch.

For 2013 Givenchy, the French fashion firm, returns to the world of watches after a several year hiatus with a product that is actually quite impressive. No new ground is broken in terms of materials, complication, or quality, but what Givenchy has done is remained true to themselves while offering an appealing, and wonderfully contemporary design.

The Seventeen watch is a neo-gothic timepiece that slyly frames a retro-inspired dial with a 1980s futuristic case. The 40mm wide steel case comes in either a brushed steel or gold-toned finish, with a unique metal frame that feels more military than designer. This has been done before, but what you see is the outline of a sports watch such as a Rolex Submariner and the round simplicity of a more traditional dress watch. Made of stainless steel, the watches feature a scratch-proof sapphire glass housing a Swiss-made quartz movement. The Seventeen is really about being an intersection of both. Throughout the design Tisci plays with the idea of sport and formality for an unique hybrid approach.
