SMOLDERING TIMBERS - 2011 HOME HAUNT PROJECT

Inspired by the "smoldering timbers" towards the end of Disney's Pirated Of The Caribbean Ride / Attraction, these are made from "pink foam" assembled into hollow beams, then carved out to made holes for the "fire". A long tube with plastic bag material was then inserted into one end of the beam, and spray foam (Great Stuff) was then injected into the "burning" areas.

Once the spray foam was dried, it was then carved down to be only 1/2" thick. The tube with the plastic bag material was then removed, leaving a hollow channel for the rope lighting to be fed down inside.

The beams were then painted black with flat black house paint and then dry brushed to look "ashed".

A smoke machine provides the smoke.

Each beam measures about 5-6 feet long can be arranged in a proper formation once our "Pirate Scene" setup is in place.

This video was a small test just to make sure the desired effect was achieved.
