If you ask RIT head coach Jake Coon about his current 27 home-game win streak...he'll mention game 28..the one they let get away....a one goal loss to SUNY Cortland... 2 years ago. I suppose a coach never forgets...so he can remind his players of more challenging times to keep them grounded. But it may be hard to keep the Tigers grounded... they're a perfect 17 and 'oh' and chasing their 5th straight conference title. 1st quarter...Kyle Sterzin feeds Matt Hossack...not normally an offensive threat...but it works... RIT's 3rd straight goal makes it 3-1. Move to the 2nd...Kyle Aquin with a quick re baleas aquin's 38th of the year. To the 4th...Tigers off the draw in transition...they are lethal...one reason...Freshman Ryan Lee...he makes it 12-9 RIT. Later in the Xth... Jack Kryzston inverts from behind...the long bouncer finds the twine...Tigers up by 4. And RIT hangs on for their 3rd straight Liberty lLague Championship 13-11.... Jake: They've been resilient, we talked about it yesterday. It wasn't going to be an easy contest. We had to be resilient through the game and deal with goalie saves, you know, a couple turnovers here and there, just keep plugging through the whole game. And I thought we did a good job of that.
jack: You know to get to our ultimate goal which is a national championship, we gotta win this game first so it's just another step up on the ladder.
Pat: We got to geer, we put some goals down, you know Liberty League Championship was one, but the big prize here is we want to win a national championship and anything short of that would be a disappointment.
And after a perfect 18 and 0 record and ranked number 1 for most of the season...the selection committee rewards the Tigers with the top overall seed in this years tournament. As a result of being the p do..the Tigers get to a first round bye and have to wait to see who their first opponent will be...but we do know the Tigers will get the winners of Ithaca and Montclaire. RIT will host the game the second round game this upcoming Saturday.
