Commentary:

A long-awaited authentic period film depicting bushidou with a heart-racing "chase" and "swordfights" !
Bushidou (original Japanese title: Shundou) is an authentic period film full of tension and swordfight scenes with great realism. Regarded as the pinnacle of the Japanese independent films, it has been written and directed by Yasuo Mikami with a strong determination, "There are no period films that I want to watch. That's why I must make it myself", based on his first independent film of the same title in 16 mm he produced 33 years ago. Starring as the swordplay master who struggles to pursue the spirit of bushidou is Takehiro Hira, a new rising star of period films who has been in a number of major works and mesmerizing many with his strong presence. It also has a rich lineup of top Japanese period film stars - Gou Wakabayashi, Yuuki Meguro, Takeo Nakahara, Asahi Kuritzuka and Tamao Sato. Tomohito Wakizaki who played the young samurai took the challenge to perform the hardcore swordfight scene in the snow himself, all shown at regular speed. As for the crew, the top-notch masterminds of period films were brought together, including Hiroshi Kuze for swordplay choreography, Takaaki Miyanishi for lighting and Shinichi Ito for sound effects. In addition, the entire film was shot on location, such as inside an important cultural property of Japan in Iga, a castle town in Mie, as well as in the snow in Kyoto, Shiga and Fukui. Also look forward to the powerful drums by Wadaiko Hiryu brought to you in 5.1ch in the theaters to enhance the mood of this long-awaited authentic period film!

Story:

Justice as a man, a samurai or a civil servant. Their codes of justice now clash!
In 1735, three years since the great famine of Kyouhou, the Inaba Han (similar to a clan) in the San-in Region seemed to have regained their peace. However, Lord Deputy Minayoshi Araki (Go Wakabayashi) receives a report that Juzo Matsumiya (Yuuki Meguro) sent from the shogunate government to the Inaba Han as the swordplay master is onto something. Araki orders his right-hand man Taigo Funase (Takeo Nakahara) to mark Matsumiya.
Also in the Inaba Han is a swordplay master named Daihachiro Harada (Takehiro Hira), who a young samurai Hiroki Kagawa (Tomohito Wakizaki) and his older sister Yuki (Tamao Sato) who have lost their father when young have complete trust in. Harada tries hard to realize his pupil Kagawa's lifelong dream to go on sword training at a neighboring han.
That is when Funase reports to Araki that he has gotten a hold of a secret letter by Matsumiya to the shogunate, in which it said, "I have found out everything about the Inaba Han." Araki also receives news that a shogun's envoy Takamine Nishizaki (Asahi Kurizuka) is fast approaching, thus if Nishizaki were to meet Matsumiya, the Inaba Han would be realigned and annihilated. Araki is must make a decision fast. Where will that lead Harada, Funase, Kagawa and Yuki...
