Child protection is everyone's responsibility. To protect girls from violence, we need adequate laws, child friendly services to assist children who have suffered abuse, supportive families, schools and communities, and overall wide awareness on how to detect and report violence. But we also need girls to be confident and know how to protect themselves from violence.
Watch this video to know how Balika Sangha, or Girls' Collectives in the villages of Andhra Pradesh organize and equip girls to deal with the challenges of life including sexual abuse.
Also watch how the Gender Sensitization and People Friendly Project , an ongoing project by UNICEF and the Government of Karnataka, aims at bringing about an attitudinal change in the police force while dealing with cases of abuse and violence related to women and children.
