I'm LT Donovan, orthopedic surgeon specializing in hand surgery with Summit Orthopedics. The most common procedures we're going to do in hand surgery usually are going to be carpal tunnel or some trigger finger surgeries, although we do have one of the busiest practices in the country as far as broken wrists are concerned. During the recent snowstorm we had, take your pick of which one, we did nine broken wrists in one day. I like baseball. Baseball's my favorite sport. Matter of fact, my license plate in Iowa was SIX43DP, which means six-four-three double play. Pitchers' best friend. I've only had two people ever figure that out. Unfortunately, nowadays medicine is becoming more of a business, and patients are oftentimes referred to as consumers or customers. I don't really appreciate that. I still think that customers or the patients are No. 1. They need to be treated like patients and not herded in like cattle: get them in, get them out. So the patients are always No. 1. And being on the other side of patient care, when my wife was in the hospital, or my grandson was in the hospital for about 60 days, I got a taste of what it was like to be a patient. And so when I was there, I made the vow that I would never treat my patients the way we were treated.
