The 2nd World Summit on Echocardiography took place in New Delhi, India. Rather than expect the world to come to India, the summit planners decided to bring a special part of the summit to the entire world ... using hangouts on air and a mobile app.
Kathi Browne of BrowneKnows Social Media and David Plans of BioBeats worked in concert with Partho Sengupta, James Thomas, and the Consortium of Echocardiography Societies to present a unique live worldwide biometrics experience that bridged the gaps between technology, medicine, music, and social media! Dr. Thomas offered insights into the history and purpose of the societies and addressed the importance of echocardiographical advancement. Dr. Plans then introduced the BioBeats app as a tool for viewers to become more aware of factors (such as stress) that negatively affect heart health.
During the live broadcast of the opening ceremony, viewers were asked to play a part in the presentation by launching the Pulse app and tracking their heartrates. This app read each participant's heartrate, converted the data into a musical arrangement to each participant, and translated the data to a real-time dashboard that was shared throughout the broadcast and with the Summit attendees.
People participated from all over the world, creating a truly worldwide experience that became an educational experience for all as global trends in sonography were reported by all the continents. The event concluded with a traditional lighting of the lamp as orignal music, that was created from an ultrasonification of data, played in the background.
