During a meeting with the villagers of Chhulemu, they told HDF their first priority was better toileting. Their second request was to be taught better farming methods.

After some research, HDF landed on the EcoSan composting toilet that has been deployed in many developing countries, including Nepal.

In November, 2014 we built the first EcoSan toilet in Chhulemu and before the earthquakes, we built four more.

Now with the reconstruction of homes in the village HDF will also build an EcoSan toilet with that reconstruction.

These composting toilets have the added benefit of addressing the second request, teaching better farming methods.

Each villager has "skin in the game" with the EcoSan toilet in the nature of gathering all of the materials and providing 50% of the labor.
