Artist Lala Drona shows her paintings at the collective exhibition "Je suis..." in Paris, France. EXPLANATION BELOW: Lala Drona’s triptych represents the last three in her series of paintings The Breast Series. The Breast Series explores Lala Drona’s medical past and questions current ideas of feminine beauty and self-acceptance. Inspired by the theme Je suis…, (I am…) Lala dives deeper into her origin story.
The three paintings depict the journey of Lala Drona’s appropriation and rejection of her breast experience. She gives this traumatic experience a voice by putting it on the canvas, but in turn risks that this experience consumes her entirely in the process.
Lala Drona appropriates these stories from a place of power, and feels that one “must accept their monsters and collaborate with them in order to make true art.” The phrase Je suis la fin qui justifie les moyens (I am the end that justifies the means) explains the reasons behind her experiences. Everything she has gone through, and everything she continues to do serves to a higher purpose: to the destiny of a great artist.
