Master Storyteller, Jonathan Kruk, enlivens Washington Irving's classic gothic tale with a rousing spirited solo performance. In bespoke sartorial splendour, his poetic persona beguiles the audience with a myriad of visages, voices, sounds and gestures. Written in 1819, ‘The Legend of Sleepy Hollow’ made Irving famous and continues to captivate audiences today. This horror-romance tells of a Yankee schoolmaster infatuated with a Dutch heiress, chased off by a goblin known as the Headless Horseman. True to the author's tale, Mr Kruk's dynamic performance delivers drama, mystery and wit.

Annually, Jonathan does over fifty performances at the Old Dutch Church in Sleepy Hollow through October which sell out before the run begins. His book for The History Press – Legends and Lore of Sleepy Hollow & the Hudson Valley reveals the secret sources of the galloping horseman’s lost head and stories of the surrounding spirits. This is a trailer for the new film of his full performance at The Old Dutch Church. Viewers join the spectators of the live show as they are drawn into the magical spell of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow with Jonathan's mesmerizing voice and theatrical antics that enchant all.

Beautifully filmed in Sleepy Hollow's 1685 Old Dutch Church, the actual setting of Irving's 'Legend', this iconic church is the oldest religious building in NY. Nestled between the Sleepy Hollow cemetery where Washington Irving rests, and the bridge of the Headless Horseman's ride, the location provides a palpable ghostly presence.

The author of ‘Legends and Lore of Sleepy Hollow and the Hudson Valley’, Jonathan is not only an expert on the ‘Legend’ but renowned for dramatically retelling this perennial favourite, countless times since 1996. He is also acclaimed for his solo portrayal of, 'A Christmas Carol'. With more than 500 shows a year, Jonathan is the quintessential raconteur who regales all with programs such as Medieval Manors & Manners, Finger Fables, Mythology, Story Theater and more. Jonathan Kruk’s passion for communication, legend and learning, lead to Storytelling. What started as “Booczak Adventures” made up for his rambunctious kid brother, turned into a full-time career in 1989. He created performances for young children, like “Finger Fables” and “Stories to Step Into". Jonathan Kruk, Master Storyteller, is renowned for his solo shows of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” and “A Christmas Carol" which sell out every year. Now, he considers it a blessing to give about 500 performances annually at schools, libraries, historic sites, festivals, Shakespeare is Elementary and Hudson River Lore at schools, libraries, historic sites and festivals. Jonathan was selected “Best Storyteller in the Hudson Valley” by Hudson Valley Magazine. The New York Times called him “intrepid” … a storyteller who "has a way with the spoken word, the telling gesture, the sprinkling of humour and the appropriate costume for a smorgasbord of stories". An artist educator with a masters degree, Jonathan's school programs are BOCES registered for partial funding. Jonathan’s eight recordings have earned Parent’s Choice award and other honours. He’s been featured on CBS Sunday Morning, Al-Jazeera America, The O’Reilly Factor, National Geographic and the History Channel.
Jonathan's wife, actress and filmmaker, Andrea Sadler, performed as the White Lady with him at Historic Hudson Valley for 10 years until they moved the performance to the Old Dutch Church. Fans were clamouring for a DVD version of his performance and so was born this film project. This is the first time since 1922 that the Old Dutch church has allowed a film crew to film at the church so it was truly an honour to be able to recreate and capture Jonathan Kruk's performance for generations to come. To arrange a Film Screening Presentation or to purchase the DVD version please contact Jonathan Kruk or Andrea Sadler.
