About TEDx, x = independently organized event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Did you ever hear the underdog story about the Carl Hayden High School students that beat MIT en route to winning a national underwater robotics competition? If so, then you've heard about Fredi Lajvardi's amazing team of high school students that unexpectedly beat several of the nations top engineering schools in the MATE National ROV Championships. Not only is Fredi an inspirational mentor and teacher, but he is also the the co-founder of APASE (Arizona Promotors of Applied Science in Education) and a major influence in extracurricular STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) education in Arizona. Fredi has been a teacher in the Phoenix Union High School District for over 20 years and currently teaches Marine Science at Carl Hayden High School.
