The Merchants' Village Consignment software is a free and open source (GPL3) point of sale system to help retail consignment businesses sell items for others. The software prints price labels for inventory which consignors want to sell, and provides a cash register POS screen that can be used by consignment shops to scan and sell large volumes of items quickly. It can also be used as a straightforward cash register system for any type of retail store or other business.

Features include powerful reports, batch check writing, automatic adjusted sale pricing based on item, vendor, time/date, and other parameters, rent tracking, automatic backups, tiered levels of password protection, multi platform OS operation, wired/wireless network installation, and more.

The program is extremely simple and fast to operate, and no special hardware or supplies are required.

It has been thoroughly tested and used in one of the largest consignment locations in the US, to sell *millions* of items (using only inexpensive netbooks and off the self hardware and supplies).

See also https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gi8s1... for an example of customization done for a client. If you have a specific set of needs to run your business, this system can be easily and inexpensively customized to fit your exact needs.
