This is a simple discussion about audio for wannabe home audio engineers. This is for beginners. This video is very short so as to give just a tidbit of understanding about an audio signal and what it might look like on a scope or on a graph. Some specific details are left out to cut down on confusion. Details can be pondered later. This just throws out the idea of audio on a graph (volume or dynamic range graph). (There are many other ways to describe aspects of sound on graphs, such as various frequency graphs, and more).
Linden Hudson has been a recording engineer for 40 years. The first 20 years he worked in recording studios. The past 20 years he's engineered sound for film and video production.
Linden Hudson once wrote a song on the ZZ Top "Eliminator" album. The song was titled "Thug". Then Linden spent the next 5 years suing ZZ Top for his money. Why do some stars do this to the little people? Are they afraid of having one less Mercedes in the driveway? Recording is fun, but the music business often sucks. Linden spent years trying to understand why his "so-called" friends did this to him. This ZZ story is rather easy to verify. Just search the internet for Linden Hudson and pick through the stories and articles. There's even a story in an old Rolling Stone Magazine about Linden's sad adventure. You can find info at the following internet sites too (just search each page for Linden Hudson):
(there are many other articles, including 3 books wi info)
(known books that talk about Linden):
SHARP DRESSED MEN (by David Blayney)
ZZ TOP - BAD AND NATIONWIDE (by Deborah Frost, former Rolling Stone writer)
TRESS HOMBRES (by David Sinclair - writer for the London Times)

Linden Hudson is an indie recording artist (for fun) and he sells his tunes on Itunes, Amazon-mp3 and many other services. Linden records all his recent songs at home, in hotels, in shacks... but never in recording studios. Linden will tell you that you can get the same quality at home as you can in a studio (if you learn how). Check out some of Linden's low budget (no budget) music recordings at:

Linden Hudson urges you to get advice and ideas from everyone who offers it. Put it all in your head and sort out what you think is bad ideas or advice. There are a lot of people out there who have experience and get results in many different ways and with different approaches. There is no ONE way to do anything.
