The conference opened spectacularly with a networking reception at the top of 30 St. Mary Axe (the Gherkin), the Norman Foster-designed building credited with launching London's recent tall building trend. The breathtaking glass-domed top floor of the Gherkin, occupied by the swank bar-restaurant Searcy's, played host to more than 150 conference delegates, who were able to make new friends and catch up with old colleagues from around the globe against a backdrop of city lights, stretching to the horizon. Attendees appreciated the fine detailing of the building's architecture, which can only be appreciated from inside and up close.
